Is open / close supposed to be detected when Shelly D/W 2 in deep sleep?

  • Dear Shelly users and enthusiasts,

I have a Shelly Door Window 2, and I configured it properly.

It always works fine for a couple of hours (detection of open / close, reporting info such as temperature, lux, etc.).

But after it goes into deep sleep, it never wakes up again even if I open / close the door.

Nothing is reported, and no other information is reported either.

I tried this with standard configuration, and also with MQTT as advised by the support.

The only way to wake-up the device is to press the reset button.

My simple question: is an open / close of the door / window supposed to wake-up the device and send the new status?

I already submitted this to the support, but they told me it's normal; but I don't understand the logic to market a door / window detector if it doesn't detect such events after a deep sleep.

Thank you for your help and best regards.

    Alexandre

    Hi Alexandre,

there are diffenrent conditions the DW2 will wake up and send its state data:

    Main: Open/Close (of course)

Additionally: A periodic set of data will be sent. The DW2 wake up, send state, back to sleep. I don't know the exact frequency of the period, but I think I heard something like every 12 hours...

In the App/WebUI you can define/enable more condition for wake up and sending:

In section "Sensor Settings" you can activate the light conditions, "tilt"-function, the "vibration"-sensor and temperatur changes. All active detecions will wake up the DW2 and it will send state information - and will stress the battery.

For example: I configured my DW2 that it will inform me about open/close the gate and if the temperature is changed more than 1°C. In my log I will find (depending of weather and come/go-events) more than 20 entrys of the DW2.

Form "outside the sensor" you cannot wake up the sensor using software, http-request ore something like that. The only way to wake up is push the button or manipulate the conditions (like open/close the door).

    Viele Grüße,

    Wolfgang

  • Dear Eulhofer,

Thanks a lot for your complete and comprehensive answer, and confirming the open / close of the magnet should trigger a wake-up of the device, even if in deep sleep.

I believe my Shelly D/W 2 is faulty, and I'm getting back to the support again for a replacement or refund.

    Thank you and best regards.
