What is this data (Shelly EM / Home Assistant)

  • I have a Shelly EM running, currently only measuring one "feed" - two PV panels on the roof.

The Voltage is obvious; the PV Power & Power Negative rounded are effectively the same thing, and are the real time generation values in watts. The Rounded feed was created by me.

But what are the first two?

I'd like to think the PV Energy (6.29) is Today's total production, but that isn't the case - if I look on the adjacent non-smart meter the panels have produced less than 0.5kWh so far today.

And perhaps the Energy Returned is the cumulative total since I wired up the Shelly EM?

With the Home Assistant "Energy" module, I am able to include the PV Energy and the PV Energy Returned feeds, but I am not convinced either are particularly helpful.

    Any thoughts? Many thanks!

  • OK, comparing these figures with the Shelly dashboard, it would appear that the PV Energy (6.29kWh) is the amount of energy the Inverter has consumed since installation, and the PV Energy Returned (247kWh) is the energy generated since installation.

How can I "capture" the Energy Returned today? This is perhaps a question for the Home Assistant forums, but I'll leave it here now.

    Many thanks,

  • Hi gfyet,

I am planning on doing the same thing. However, can't get the Shelly up and running yet.

For other devices using energy, I notice that only the total is listed. I think that home assistant will take a snapshot every x period and stores that to calculate usage over time. The Energy dashboard shows usage nicely.

In the settings - energy, you can add the energy returned in the solar production section.

    Kind regards,

    Robert
