Hello, I'm in UK and completely new to Shelly products but I want to get some for my new-build home (which will be completed next spring).
My builder has given me the plans of the house which show the wall switches for the lights in each room. Some of those wall switches are 2-gang switches (in other words two gangs on one 86mmx86mm plate).
They will all be standard toggle switches, but I will replace them with momentary push-switches after I move in, like-for-like, to match the gang and switching options of the original toggle switches.
One example of my builder's plans has a 2-gang, 2-way switch: with one gang acting as a simple on-off (1-way) operation for a single light in the hallway, and the other gang acting as one half of a 2-way operation for the stairway lighting (the other half of that operation is a 1-gang, 2-way switch upstairs).
My question is: if I want to use two Shelly Dimmer 2's with the stairway lighting and with the hallway light, could I place one Shelly for the stairway lighting behind the 1-gang, 2-way switch upstairs, and the other behind the 1-gang, 1-way switch for the hallway light?
In that scenario I would avoid having to connect both Shellys behind the back box of the 2-gang, 2-way switch, which obviously has more wiring behind it than the two single switches......does that make sense?
If that is a good way to go.....I know I will be able to operate the hallway lighting easily with the Shelly, as it's just a simple circuit.
But will I be able to control the stairway lighting via the Shelly from both ends of the 2-way circuit? In other words, will I be able to switch the stairway lighting on and off AND dim/brighten it (using long push) from upstairs and/or downstairs?
I hope you can offer a newbie some valuable advice and if you could provide a circuit diagram that would be amazing!
Many thanks.
