Water Meters & UNI

  • Hi Everyone.

New to the Shelly tech but have implemented 1'S, EM's & PM's thus far with no hitches. Recently bought a UNI with the intention of detecting pulses from a water meter reed switch. I've used the AC wiring diagram (Fig3B) for reference, which means the light brown wire should reflect as a pulse when connected to neutral if I'm not mistaken?

But is there any way to actually 'see' or better yet account for the pulse outputs? Thank you. ;)

  • The light brown wire (IN-1) has to be connected via the reed contact to Vcc (Pin 1) as shown in the diagram:

Unfortunately, I’ve no experience how the pulses from water meter could be counted and depicted. This task will need the use of an overlay system. You will find examples in other threads of this forum!

  • Hi everybody,

I tested Shelly Uni with pulse water meter which generate 4 pulses per ltr, in my test the pulses frequency proximately 4 pulses in 4 seconds, Shelly detected the pulses but not accurate, what is the maximum frequency for shelly to detect the pulses, is there any way to adjust this time in Shelly Uni,

  • Unfortunately, the Shelly UNI has a latency of about 400ms to recognise a signal at one of the digital inputs (IN-1/IN-2). For details look here. This latency may be diminished by adding a resistor (2,2 to 4,7kΩ) between the input (pin 7 or 8) and GND (pin 2). However, you should not expect to lower the latency under a margin of 100ms! The lower the resistor, the lower the latency - but the higher is the stress for the reed contact!
