Alexa tells me quite often, that Shelly does not respond

  • I have installed a Shelly 2.5 in Roller/Shutter-Mode to open and close my electrical "roof-window".

Shelly is connected to Shelly-Cloud. Shelly-Skill is installed into Alexa and "roof-window" is imported as device into into Alexa.

Alexa-Device-Info tells me that "roof-window" is an activated device connected via "Allterco Robotics" with a description of "Shelly 25 relay" and is of type "shutter"

I have connected two push-buttons to shelly to be able to open and close the roof-window by pushing a button next to my light-switch. This works perfect without problems.

I am able to open and close the roof-window with the shelly-app on my mobile phone (it does no mather if wifi is turned on or off, so opening and closing is also possible when using a mobile connection like LTE or 3G)

BUT: When I ask Alexa to open or close the roof-window, Alexa opens or closes the roof window in about 30 % of the cases. In the other 70% of cases Alexa tells me, that "roof window does not respond".

Even if Alexa tells me that "roof-window does not respond" - I am able to open or close the roof-window using the Shelly-App on my mobile-phone.

    Any ideas?

  • Hallo Pantah,

I don't believe that the problem is related to a bad WIFI-Connection. As I have written I am able to control the Shelly device at any time with the Shelly App on my mobile phone.

Only If I ask Alexa to control the shelly device, Alexa reports that the device is not responding, while I am at the same time able to control the Shelly with the Shelly App.

  • Actually I just did a test and asked Alexa the status of the device (let's call it X). It responded that "opening of X was 0 percent" which was correct as it was closed. I then asked it "set opening of X to 50 percent" and it worked. Try asking it that way instead of just open and close...
