Dimmer 2 forgetting settings

  • Hi All

I've been playing around with a Shelly Dimmer 2 on my bench seeing what it can do and how I can integrate it with my setup. I have managed to get it working the way I want I think but I have had to re-add it to my network several times. All settings including wifi network, calibraion settings and CORS enablement get reset so it dissappears from my wifi network.

Initially I thought that this only happened when I disconnected it from power to change the wiring but it has also happened when it is still connected to power.

WHy is this happening? Do I need to get a replacement dimmer?

    Thanks

  • I too have been bench testing two units and moving them around the house to evaluate their usefulness in my automation system and Son-in-laws High End Electrical Contracting business.

One of my two units has lost complete configuration multiple times. Configuration was static IP address with no Cloud access and using DDD. Should I return the unit? Note I have observed the failure with the latest firmware.

  • I have exactly the same issue. Dimmer-2 sometimes resets itself forgetting all the settings. This typically happens when clicking the connected physical button, but also appears to happen sometimes after power loss/recovery cycle. Happens on both devices that I tried so far. Does not seem to happen with other Shelly devices that I tried.

Using a neutral wire, configured as WiFi client with static IP, no cloud access, runs the latest firmware.

Sounds like a serious issue I wonder why there're no more updates on this thready for more than a year and if it's a FW bug why it was not fixed yet.

Also looking at Shelly Dimmer 2 went BOOOM!, forgetting settings is not the worst thing that can happen to Dimmer-2.

I wonder if anyone has used these devices for a sufficiently long period of time without issues?

  • Some good news here.

I contacted Shelly support and learned that if physical button connected to the switch is turned on/off 5 times the dimmer resets itself. This can be disabled in settings in "Factory Reset" section. I think I accidently was triggering this magic sequence while testing the dimmer.

I also noticed the dimmer did not run the latest FW even though it claimed it did when I connected directly to it's AP. Since the dimmer was not connected to the Internet it obviously could not really know whether it ran the latest version or not.

With FW updated and the reset via switch option disabled in the settings I could not reproduce the problem. I did try hard.
