Options for controlling Tasmota smart lamps with physical light switch and shelly relays?

  • Hi,

Newbie here, new to the forum, and relatively new to the product range. I'm looking for control options for media room downlights which are ATHOM pre Flashed TASMOTA Smart Colour Bulbs

I'm in the UK and the circuit is wired as a 2-way switching with neutral at the switch.

Ideally I'd like to be able to switch the lamps on/off, control the brightness, and maybe their colour from the physical wall switches. I have home assistant, node-red and MQTT available.

I have swapped the tradition 2-way switches for momentary switches and have tried various Shelly products.

    • Shelly 1 - as a traditional switch it switches the power off to the smart lamps, but it looks as though I could to something with the switch in detached mode, mqtt, node-red and home assistant
    • Shelly 2 Dimmer - this seems to be able to switch on and off the lamps, without the lamps themselves losing power, but I've been unable to figure out how to dim, a long press didn't do this.
    • Shelly i3 - this works relatively well, as I set up a Node-Red flow with a MQTT in node to listen to the topic and kick off an action with a call service node. It is however a bit at the mercy of the wifi

I've looked around the forum but can't see any patterns or pointers to achieve what I'm trying to achieve. There's got to ne other folk out there mixing smart lamps with Shelly relays. Ay pointer or patterns gratefully received.

    TIA

  • Can you clarify what you are looking for?, What's wrong with the i3 option you detail?

I was hoping to be able to use the physical switch to directly control the smart lamps, but realise this isn't really going to be possible. I've found the Shelly relay modules a little flaky when it comes to maintaining connection to the wifi. Currently I've got an Alexa in the room as a backup, if the Shelly drops off the network and the switch becomes useless I can at least voice control the lighting.
