How Shelly UNI works

  • Hi, first of all I want to thank you for any information you could provide.

I am old fan of Shelly 1, I have used the device everywhere to automate tons of things. But I can not make Shelly UNI work.

I just bought a Shelly UNI to detect when 12VDC happens in another circuit, so I get a notification in a cellphone when that happens and at the same time I would like to use the outputs to turn on some other stuff using relays.

I have searched everywhere and the device is not well documented, or at least I have not found anything to tell me how to make it work. Reading here I learned the INs and OUTs are related, I suppose there are relays to send whatever is on the INs to the OUTs, but I simply can not get any voltage in the OUT having that in the IN. I am using the web interface to turn on the channel and I see nothing in the OUT.

Maybe I am missing something to make it work or I am not understanding how the device works.

    Can someone please advice ?

    Thank you so much.

  • Like the Shelly 1 the Shelly UNI has “dry”outputs (UNI has two of them, Shelly 1 only one). And the outputs of UNI are made with PowerMOSFETs - another difference, cause these MOSFETs are are capable to switch not more than 100mA at a max. voltage of 36V DC! In order get a 12V DC output e.g. from Shelly UNI OUT-1, you’ll have to connect one of the black Leads of OUT-1 to 12V DC - the other black lead gives the signal! Please have a look at the description in the “lexicon”: Click!

And by the way: Welcome to the forum! And a merry Xmas on top!

  • I followed this thread because I have the same problem. I connect the Vcc 12v(red) cable directly to the Out1(+).

But don't get a measurable VCC out. UNI GND to Out1(-) is missing.

In the App and Cloud UI i can turn outputs on/off, and both have "relay on". The UNI white cable is connected so I see that ADC gives 11.91v.

    What's missing?

  • Did you connect the Shelly and the voltmeter as following:

? (Supply voltage of Shelly is an example only; other voltages or AC supply is also possible…)
