Shelly 1 for garage door opener with reed switch

  • Hi,

I have set up a Shelly 1 as per a you-tube video with a 12V power supply and added a reed switch to let me see when to door is open. It all works correctly except the input state from the reed switch only updates when you close the app and open it again. It seems like the device or app is not checking its status regularly or something. Does anyone know why this might be happening and how to fix it?

    Thank you in advance.

  • I assume that you did connect the reed contact to SW input of Shelly.

It could make sense to simulate the operation by using a casual switch, or just a jumper, instead of the reed contact, in order to see, if that works.

Such you could see if the problem is on Wiring side.

Further you have to check carefully, whether you have to have a positive, or negative polarity connected to SW input.

From here one can see, that Shelly expects to get negative signal connected to SW input:

A last thing is t check the settibg of contact type, as momentary, edge etc.

  • The Shelly 1 input at terminal SW expects a current flowing from SW to L to activate. Positive voltage (e.g. plus at SW, minus at L) inhibit a current flow. Negative voltage (minus at SW, plus at L) or a resistance of less than 150kΩ between SW an L activate the Shelly.
