Shelly 2.5 still Connected but won't switch

  • Hi,

Relative newbie here. I have installed 4 different Shelly units and all working great for months until today.

I have two Shelly 2.5s behind a four gang light switch. Each channel controls a set of LEDs in kitchen/diner.

Today, the two sets of lights controlled by one of the Shelly 2.5s turned on and couldn't be turned off by the app. I turned off at the wall and now the app can't switch them on or off at all.

The Shelly is still connected as it records the changes in consumption when turned on/off at the wall and registers the lights as on/off on the app, but doesn't do anything when I try to switch using app.

Also, I can't seem to tell the Shelly to reset or change any settings (though I wouldn't know what I needed to change anyway)

Really hoping I don't have to take off the switch cover as had a hell of a time getting them all in the back box!

    Would appreciate any ideas?

    Thanks

    Michael

  • Hello Michael, welcome to the forum. :)

Is the WEB UI accessible in the browser?

Then you could try to reboot Shelly, if necessary to reset it.

  • Hi,

Thanks for the reply. I had forgotten about the web interface. I have checked this and actually I can switch the lights on and off from the web (Shelly Cloud Login).

So it seems to be just an issue with the App, but that only affects one relay in the house.

Do you still think rebooting is a good idea?

    Thanks

    Michael

  • Hi.

You have the following options, sorted in the correct order in my opinion:

    • Restart smartphone and / or app
    • Reboot Shelly, don't reset
    • Delete Shelly (only) in the app and then add it back via IP.
  • Hi,

Thanks so much for your help. A combination of the above eventually got it working.

I had to force a reconnection to the WiFi before I could access the IP. Then it still didn't work with what I think is a new version of the app. Having reinstalled the old version I was then able to add the device by the IP.

    Thanks again.

    Michael
