Shelly & Somfy Universal RTS Receiver

  • I am looking to install an awning over my patio in the near future (the vendor has so far mentioned Somfy 550 motor w/ wireless remote and wind sensor for auto-retract) and am trying to decide if I should go with that OR a wired Somfy option that could be used with Shelly.

I saw Dimitar's video on using Shelly 2.5 to control a Somfy blind motor. Looking at this, it seems that the UP/DOWN commands are maintained for travel and that absence of both commands is interpreted as STOP. Is that correct?

One thing that I'm not sure about is how the Shelly knows that the motor has reached end of travel - I believe that this is handled by the calibration of the Shelly during initial setup?

I also came across the Somfy Universal RTS Receiver (1810627) which would allow me to use a Somfy Remote. Is anyone familiar with this offering? I asked Somfy tech support how it would know that the awning has reached end of travel - I was told that this is handled by the motor (which doesn't mesh with earlier) and that the receiver's outputs are just momentary. This doesn't seem to mesh with Somfy wiring videos where they demonstrated the use of maintained and momentary switches which behaved with maintained and momentary movement.

    Many thanks in advance!

  • My personal opinion on this:

If you want to control an awning or a roller shutter with smart home devices, regardless of the manufacturer, it is best to install simple, stupid motors.

    That causes the least problems.

  • Agree with 66er. Just go for 4 (or 3) wire control motors and control them with Shelly 2.5 or Plus 2PM. You can later integrate it with any home automation solution you like or just use the Shelly mobile app. It will also allow you to still control it with physical buttons/switches connected to shelly.
