Shelly Uni - Newbie How To Wire

  • Hi All,

Forgive me but I've just landed a shelly uni and I've spent a few hours scanning the internet and I can't seem to find the answer to my question.

Like in this thread (Shelly Uni and pressure button to open electric lock) I'm trying to do more or less what this user is doing ... this is have the gate be opened either by the push pressure button switch .... OR ... have the gate open as a result of a command (on/off) given the shelly uni in the kitchen; with the intention to use device to device connection to another shelly 1 driven switch in the front room - enabling the gate to be opened from either the kitchen or the front door.

The problem is I can't work out how to wire from shelly to the gate - so the gate can be controlled independently of the switch.

Currently the uni is wired up, in the app etc. showing 0v in the app. - should it show more ?

When I switch the device via the app I am not getting any output (0) - is this right ...I''ve tried to test it using a small LED 12v light but seems no power coming out OUT 1 ?

I'm seeing 2 ways I could wire this ... had a go at describing them below. Could anyone

    For model 1

    1. Is it correct I'll need a relay as the gate operates from 12v-24v and i see all over the place people say the shelly uni has 100ma output ?

    model 1.jpg

    For model 2

    1. If the internet is down .. would I be able to open the gate ? Assume yes as shelly would operate on the local lan.

    2. Would this model work ?

    model 2.jpg

    Overall

    1. which model would be better and could anyone help me please validate my wiring?

    2. Is there anything I need to do to in the app to set the switching function to say hold the gate open (hold power on) for 20 seconds ?

Thanks in advance for any help and apologies if this has been answered somewhere I haven't come across yet.

  • For powering the UNI use red at +12V DC and black at GND/-.
The Output of an UNI ist not a power Output, it´s a solid state contact. For this reason you must connect one wire from the output to +12V, then at the second wire the switched +12V will occur. Take care, output can carry a maximum of 100 mA!
The button for opening will be connected between +12V and the orange wire (IN1).
If you should use 12V AC instead of DC, an additional diode 1N4007 or similar in series with the butto will solve possible switching problems.

  • Thanks for the note rallyecom - appreciated.

The bit I'm not getting is "The Output of an UNI ist not a power Output, it´s a solid state contact. (GOT THIS BIT)... For this reason you must connect one wire from the output to +12V, then at the second wire the switched +12V will occur. "

Is there any wiring diagram anyone could point me toward ?

Thanks and appreciate your help here.
