Shell 3EM - single phase - No Neutral

  • Hello everyone

I am currently looking into the Shelly options to monitor my energy consumption.

I was wondering whether or not the Shelly 3EM is an option in my situation, which (I think) is comparable to the situation mentioned in this topic but I did not want to hijack that topic.

    Incoming:

My board mentions 2x230v, this has no neutral (I always thought the blue cable was supposed to be neutral)

I wanted to have a power measurement of the consumption while taking into account the production of my solar array.

I know the 3EM is focuses on multiple phases but this diagram seems to be the situation I am in.

Is this something that the Shelly 3EM (or EM) supports?

    Thanks in advance!

  • Obviously, the blue wire can be considered as neutral wire, also the grey wire after the RCD (bridged at the input of RCD). Thus, this diagram would fit:

To measure the total consumption, only one current clamp is necessary. But you may use the remaining clamps to determine the consumption of particular consumers.

And, by the way: Welcome to the forum!

  • Hello thgoebel

Thanks you for your welcome and very quick response.

Is my assumption correct that for each clamp (IA,IB,IC) I need one live wire into a V-port?

So if I only use 1 clamp on IA I need to put one cable in VA?

If i were to put it behind an existing breaker in my board, would this be a correct wiring (without a clamp for the solar array)

    pasted-from-clipboard.jpg

The live wire from the breaker to VA

The neutral wire from the breaker to N

A clamp on the black wire (not sure about this?) to IA

To add a measurement for solar:

wago on live wire and add a cable to VB?

Clamp from IB to live wire of the solar array, direction inverter -> breaker for the solar array?

Thanks in advance and sorry for the many questions :D

    Yes, indeed!

Agree with your thoughts to install the clamps and voltage pick up. But you should consider to use a Shelly EM if you want to measure not more than two power consumptions at one phase. It would be cheaper…

  • Thank you for your input!

I think I know enough to get some measurements going and feed the data into my home assistant.

On a sidenote, I have been looking into the EM instead of the 3EM, but the availability seems to be an issue. I will find a use for the third clamp f.e. measuring a circuit where some older appliances are present might be insightful.

    Thanks again!
