Hello dear forum members,
I guess I have an issue with a lamp (https://www.amazon.de/gp/product/B08K3HKLYN and also possibly https://www.amazon.de/gp/product/B08K3H5VMK of the same kind - not yet checked), that can be solved by wiring up the shelly in an unconventional way.
I recently received my Shelly 1L. I hooked it up according to the suggested wiring diagram (including a bypass, not yet knowing, if I need it or not), and immediately faced a problem: When live goes to "L" on the Shelly and "O" to the lamp, the shelly never boots up. I see no LED flashing. No nothing.
I even triple checked with no lamp and no shelly or switch connected, that I got L and N right: I definitely do.
Here is the setup, that does NOT work for me.
After skimming the internet, I found a reddit post of a user having similar issues (I unfortunately can not find the URL anymore). He was able to get it working by simply connecting live to "Shelly O" and the load to "Shelly L".
For me, this sounded fishy but indeed it also works for me 🤯.
Here is my current setup:
Since I am a pragmatic person, I go for "whatever works for me". Yet, I have my safety considerations. Surely, the relais will still make a breaking connection, when open. But is there anything bad about this setup? To be honest, the way the 1L works, there will always be a (possibly harmful current) going towards the "device under test", which is necessary in order to power the 1L. So on these terms, the situation looks the same for me. But what about overload issues or fire hazards on the shelly itself? I tend to doubt that, since it's AC anyway.
Is there any official statement regarding this way of wiring?
