Shelly 1 with "Short distance IR sensor" switch

  • Hello,

I am trying to put a Shelly1 between a light and a "Short distance IR sensor" which is working as a switch. I have done the wiring correctly, but the light only works when started from the Shelly, the switch does not start it. I guess there is a need for a resistor/relay between the SW and the sensor, but not sure what exactly. Any help is appreciated if someone had similar problem.

The sensor is one like this:

  • Welcome to the forum!

Would you be so kind to draw a sketch how you did connect the Shelly with the sensor?

  • Hi vtd77 YW

it must be the same wiring as a moving detector. The L* output must be connected with the SW input from the Shelly.

If you want to switch on every IR move detection, you must configure the Button Type as edge (on every change = on or off)

  • Hello,

Sorry for the late reply. I have drawn an ugly sketch of my wiring, I believe everything is right (I have used Shelly1 before with standard switches).
I have tried every combination of Button Type and settings on the Shelly, but the switch is always doing nothing. I can hear the sensor click, so it has power and it is working, just the Shelly doesn't respond to it. The problem I believe is that the 'Out' of the sensor constantly has voltage, and when it is activated, it pumps it to 220V. Does the shelly require SW to have 0V when not activated?

P.S. The green 'N' wire is most likely not needed, but I've still wired it.

  • Hello,

if the relay (not the sensor) clicks, it means that there is voltage at the SW input and the connected light should be on.

Of course the SW input needs a voltage change (0 or 230V), otherwise it can't know what to do.

Your sensor switches at the first detection and keeps this status (On).

Only when it detects a signal again, it switches back (off).

Can you test if your sensor works properly without shelly ?
