Wiring a Shelly Plus 1 for a U.K. socket?

  • Hi,

I have a Shelly Plus 1 that I’d like to use to control an unswitched UK power socket.

I figure that the earth terminal on the socket just goes directly to the earth wire in the wall, and therefore it’s just the live & neutral that need connecting to the Shelly.

But I can’t seem to get anything to work on a test bench with a simple lamp plugged into the socket.

    Here’s what I’ve done…

The incoming Live (brown) is connected to the “L” terminal on the Shelly, with the incoming Neutral (blue) is connected to the “N” terminal on the Shelly.

I then connect the outgoing Live wire to the “0” terminal on the Shelly with the Neutral connected to the “l” terminal.

The Shelly appears on my network, and using the web interface I am able to trigger the relay and hear it “click” each time I activate it.

But the lamp connected to the power socket doesn’t light up.

I then swapped the outgoing Live wire to the “l” terminal on the Shelly with the Neutral connected to the “0” terminal.

    Still nothing.

    What am I doing wrong?

Any help or suggestions greatly appreciated.

  • Welcome to the forum!

To your issue: You’ll have to connect ‚live‘ to pin I too! Have a look at this sketch:

Now imagine the lamp was your wall socket (and yes, the socket MUST have an earth wire), and imagine further the (not needed) switch wasn’t there. And wire accordingly…
