Shelly Dimmer 2 - No AP mode after manual firmware update

  • HI Guys,

I was hoping someone can help.

I did an OTA update of my firmware and it appears it became corrupt. I was able to associate the dimmer to my AP and it was assigned an IP address.

When I opened the IP address I received an error message "forbidden" on the web page - I suspect this was due to bad firmware update.

I then manually flashed the Dimmer 2 using firmware "dimmer-l51.bin" using "ESPEasy_mega-20180802" software.

Uploading 564944 bytes from .\dimmer-l51.bin to flash at 0x00000000

    erasing flash

    size: 089ed0 address: 000000

    first_sector_index: 0

    total_sector_count: 138

    head_sector_count: 16

    adjusted_sector_count: 122

    erase_size: 07a000

    espcomm_send_command: sending command header

    espcomm_send_command: sending command payload

setting serial port timeouts to 15000 ms

setting serial port timeouts to 1000 ms

espcomm_send_command: receiving 2 bytes of data

    writing flash.....................

** The program displayed a notification box showing flashing complete in Windows **

After powering up the device, I do not see a LED and the shelly AP SSID is not present in my wireless scanner.

I've tried flashing multiple version firmware with the same problem.

I've also tried holding the reset button for 10 seconds both before and after turning the power switch on with no change.

What should I try next.. ?

I have no idea how to determine if they device is faulty or not.

  • I now have exactly the same as you.

I went through exactly the same process.

OTA upgrade went ok to latest. But then dimmer was erratic. Would switch lights on and they would go straight off again. Would switch lights on and couldn't switch them off.

Power cycled the dimmer. Shelly AP came up but when I opened the IP address I received an error message "forbidden" on the web page.

Factory reset did not work. Manually flashed latest firmware using NodeMCU pyflasher. Says its complete but the dimmer has no response, no led, nothing.

Madgino did you raise a ticket?

Hi mate, I never raised a ticket and never bothered going any further with the dimmer - I just replaced it with a spare I had.

    How did you go?

Raised a ticket with Shelly Support.

They sent me a firmware file and told me to recalibrate.

Managed to load firmware manually using pins which did bring the dimmer back to life.

But whatever I did the leds got stuck on at about 40% with or without a calibration. You couldn't dim or switch them off.

Support agreed it was faulty. Asked me to send it to them in Bulgaria. They would refund postage and send me a voucher for a new unit with free postage.

Contacted my Uk supplier who offered a replacement or refund. I took the replacement which I have installed this morning. So far it is behaving as it should.
