unable to calibrate Shelly Dimmer 2 with 4 LEDs and 'hangs'

  • I'm just starting with Shelly. I have a Dimmer 2, connected like as "Standard wiring with neutral" (https://shelly.cloud/wp-content/upl…tral_wiring.jpg)

    I have 4x Philips LED connected to this; (dimmable, 4W 2700K 20mA 40D, 220-240Vac 50-60Hz)

    I tried version:

    - 20201216-141505/v1.9.3-rc4@146c9bd7

    - 20201124-092706/v1.9.0@57ac4ad8

    - 1.7.something

    - 1.8.5

    All the same issue.

    I have "Trailing Edge" configured and when I hit start calibration it always fails.

    If I switch the lights on, it works, but dimming (any value) about 2 times and lights stay on, but dimmer 2 gets unreachable. unable to reach it via IP, Access Point doesn't see the client at all any more...

    and I have the disconnect the power completely of the Shelly to get a connection again...

    I'm I doing something wrong, is it expected behavior or might this dimmer 2 be broken?

  • installed a new Dimmer 2 device. but pretty much the same issue.

    now first time calibration is 'fine'. it doesn't give an error and the message that it needs to be calibrated is gone. but when I start shifting the dimmer in the web interface, it just stops and light stay on. only option to get it working again is removing the power completely ;(

    so I thought, let calibrate it again, but then I get an error:

    your Shelly device is 20200629-130515/release-1.7@28744b8b..

    not sure if firmware upgrading will help, since it didn't do any good on the previous Shelly Dimmer 2.

  • Hi,

    I had same issue when I tried via the app, I made a stand alone system... meaning via power socket connected - with a switch - and outlet of Shelly to the lamp what I was planning to dim.

    Connected via http address - upgraded FW to BETA - changed to trailing edge.

    Then I powered off the system and repowered.... checked again all system settings if still ok like trailing edge.

    Then I did the calibration, it started in my case at 50 after ca 10 seconds waiting and it took ca 1 minute to complete calibration to 100%.

    When completed all was working fine, I installed permanent in the wall.

    So... try via http to calibrate your system, maybe it helps.

    I was already using HTTP (not the App).

    I also Updated to beta 1.9.3-rc4. now mentioning:

    Current version: 20201216-141505/v1.9.3-rc4@146c9bd7

    New version: 20201124-092706/v1.9.0@57ac4ad8

    so that looks OK.

    but still calibrating just hangs. I have a ping running to the IP of the Shelly dimmer 2 and it stops quickly after I started calibrating. It does turn on the light, but the lights stay on at medium brightness. I waited for over 10 minutes, but the calibration circle keeps spinning, no increasing percentages at all. as soon as I remove the power from the Shelly en give it power back (switching the breaker) it immediately starts reacting to ping again and HTTP interface is reachable. still not calibrated...

    had the same issue on two different Shelly dimmer 2's. so I guess this is a combination of my lights and software, and not a hardware issue.. but just 4 simple Philips 4W LED lights..
