Connecting to wifi

  • Hi,

I have just purchased my first shelly device and installed it in the wall behind the light switch.

At first I could see the sheely ssid and connect to it. I picked the WiFi client option and copy/pasted the ssid and password into the fields.

Then hit save and the shelly tried to join the wifi. When the shelly ssid came back I figured something went wrong and I then copy pasted the ssid and password back into shelly. This repeated itself a few times, but now I cannot see the sheely ssid anymore and it does not connect to the wlan.

I suppose I need to reset it but before I do that, what limitations are there regarding joining WiFi networks? Can I have special characters in the WiFi name, maximum password length etc?

Are there any other things I should consider? I am planning to run my shelly offline from the Internet but with home assistant.

    Thanks in advance!

  • Hello, I'm new on this topic and got my first Shelly 1 today. Just did some wire connexions to try it without any switch. It worked fine till I got the same issue as you.

Wifi was running fine but the Shelly 1 kept disconnecting all the time.

I finally figured out that the Shelly 1 was automatically connecting to the 5ghz wifi, which is not suited for it.

So I just renamed the 5ghz wifi with another name to prevent the Shelly 1 to connect to it and now it works fine.

I also have a client access list behaviour on the router but this appeared not to be fit for purpose.

    Hope this will help.

    Regards.

This can cause problems, and special characters in the password are also a problem.

Thanks for the reply. I've now changed ssid name and password.

I have some issues joining the network. Getting the following log message after authentication is successfull:

Deauthentication sent to client because RSN is inconsistent

Any ideas why this might be? I have also filed a case with the WiFi vendor (arista/mojo).
