Shelly 2.5 problem when used to control roller shutters

  • Hello,

I decided to install shelly 2.5 for my new roller shutters, 14 in total, but I had a problem I couldn't solve. In roller shutter mode, it happened 9 times randomly among the roller shutters (in a 2 months working window).

    Problem:

After pressing the roller shut switch to close or open (in some of the cases going up and in somes cases going down) the roller shutter didn't stop even if I pressed the OFF position in the physical switch. Then, the motor continued to operate and the roller shutter got damaged because it continued to roll, even after reaching the final close/open position. The roller shutters have limit switches to interrupt power when final open or close positions are reached, but somehow in those 9 times, they continued to roll for 5 to 10 seconds more, damaging the roller shutter.

    The motors didn't get damaged.

After contacting the installation company they told me they use those motors kits for years and have never had problems with the limit swiches or nothing similar with what I was experiencing.

After fixing the damaged roller shutters I decided to remove all shellys. After 6 months operating the roller shutters in the morning, throughout the day and at night I haven't had any problem again, so I had to convince myself that the problem is not in the roller shutter installation or switch.

The roller shutter swith used is a two key switch, one key for up/stop, the other for down/stop. It has mechanical and electrical interlock against two simultaneous orders, raising automatically one key if we press the other.

Attached the key switch wiring diagram and link with the reference 21290. The two ouptuts of the switch were connected to shelly 2.5 inputs SW1 ad SW2 and outputs O1 and O2 from shelly 2.5 were connected to the motor.

I have basic knowledge in electric circuits and re-checked the wiring between shelly, the roller shutter switch and the roller shutter according with the manual. I've also checked many resources on how to properly configure shelly 2.5 in roller shutter mode.

If someone has experienced the same problem or has a tip on how to solve this problem I appreciate the help.

  • Hi all,

similar issue here, but until now only with one particular Shelly 2.5 in roller mode (out of 13). All are controlling external blinds (Raffstore) by Warema.

I’m using it with Busch-Jäger switches with toggles (up/stop and down/stop). Button type needs to be momentary for me to behave as expected, in other words to resemble the same behavior as before installing the Shelly.

So far, I’ve been observing the following:

    - behavior shows only on one of the 13 2.5ers

    - the blind goes up or down according to the issued request, but doesn’t stop on further requests

    - request may come from the switch or the web browser showing the local Shelly’s web user interface (not via the cloud)

    - the Shelly accepts no other requests in the meantime

    - roughly one or two minutes after reaching the final position, the Shelly becomes responsive again

    - when reaching the final position the motor stops

Are You connecting both L terminals on the Shelly 2.5? My latest change to the whole installation was to connect only one of both. I’m assuming that the behavior started showing only after I introduced the change, but cannot say for sure. At that time I also updated the firmware from 1.9.x to 1.10.2.
