I had a similar problem. I have been slowly building my Shelly Automations. With a mix of Shelly 1 and Dimmer 2 devices running almost flawlessly for 2 years. I purchased several more SHDM-2 about a year ago. I recently had the time to proceed with the install. I installed the devices and they were functioning immediately via the switch. No problem so far. When I went to include them in the Shelly app I had issues. At first the app found them in AP mode and attempted to include them but they failed to show up in Discovered devices. Some actually got all the way to room assignment ( some did not) but failed to update. I searched the internet on this issue (before joining this forum) and found this article by Marco - link:

It was very helpful. However, I did need to sequence my steps to properly upgrade the firmware supported by the current version of the Shelly app. Basically I need to upgrade the firmware at the device before including in the Shelly app.

Here was the sequence that worked for me.

    1. Reset device to Access Point (AP) mode
      • Hold hardware button 10 seconds - OR
      • toggle connected switch on/off 5 times (10 toggles - this did not work in my case)
    2. On my mobile device, change my wifi connection to the AP. Save the AP SSID name for later.
    3. goto browser and enter the IP address of the device, in my case the address was 192.168.33.1 to bring up Web interface.
    4. Open Settings: Internet : wifi
    5. Enter the wifi info - be completely accurate here. I messed this up once and needed to start over. I did not use static IP
    6. Save wifi settings and the device will restart on the wifi network entered.
    7. Get the device IP address. On my computer I checked the wifi router for the new device, in my case I could see the device SSID name recorded in step 2.
    8. Goto Link: http://archive.shelly-tools.de/
    9. Enter the device IP address, Shelly type and choose the most recent version. This will generate a link you can copy to your browser address bar - i.e.
    10. Copy the link to the browser to update the device.
    11. NOW I was able to properly include the new device.
    12. Include and configure as needed. The device will need to be updated again to the current version.

Thanks to Marco's information I was able to get these Shelly Dimmers to work.
