I just updated my RGBW2 to firmware v1.8, finally I can turn off the annoying wifi led
But there are a lot of features missing that the Dimmer 2 has in V1.8, I don't understand why it is different. Night Mode, Transition time, Fade rate and Minimum brightness, why is the RGBW2 different when it's running the same firmware version?
The main thing for me is the night mode, I want to use this on all my dimmers, everywhere in the house. It shouldn't matter if the light is 240v or DC surely, it's just a firmware feature? The clock is there, we have the timer and weekly schedule.
It's also nice to set the fade times very slowly, especially in a very dark Cinema room after a movie finishes.
Please can we have the same very nice features in RGBW2 that we have in Dimmer 2, these details are why I chose the Shelly.
Thanks

Hi, I bought a couple of Shellies to try out a few weeks ago, a dimmer 2 and a 2.5, both were working well so I ordered some more.
Now I have a problem, the original Dimmer 2 has stopped working, a couple of lights on off cycles after updating to v1.8.
I tried to factory reset with the switch and removed it and tried with the button. I don't know if it's completely dead because I disabled the led before it died, it's in a home cinema room.
The lamp was 3x60w halogen, wired with no neutral, exactly as the sheet, old Lutron dimmer is back in and working. Shelly Dimmer was tested with a 28w halogen bulb on my desk and nothing working, no sign of life on my wifi or as AP.
I also had another dimmer 2 in a shelly button running a standard lamp (200w halogen) this worked for a only a few minutes, also on V1.8. This one showed the led dimly but also failed to reset by switch or by button or by cycling the power input 5 times. Now the led doesn't light at all.
I emailed the suppliers about replacements already but I'm wary about installing my remaining three Dimmer 2's and haven't updated them past v1.7 they were supplied with. Those three are sitting on the desk running some 30w halogens for testing.
I also have an RGBW2 on master firmware as supplied, led is annoying in the cinema room but it works and I'm a bit concerned about updating that one too.

If you have (or buy) ceiling fans that are speed switched by changing a capacitor, then a shelly 2.5 could be wired to switch the capacitors. Usually if there is a pull switch it switches two different capacitors in line with one of the motor windings. The small value capacitor is slow speed, bigger one is medium and both in parallel is faster, some fans switch the power directly instead of both capacitors in parallel.
One relay would be slow capacitor, second would be medium, both would be fast.
Or if the capacitors are not paralleled, then you have only slow with the capacitor and full speed with direct connection.
I have two ceiling fans like this and I plan to wire the Shelly 2.5 in place of the pull switch, inside the fan. This way I use the correct capacitor values as they are the ones supplied by the manufacturer.
You must be careful to use the correct capacitors with this type of motor, the dangerous speed is the slow one, if it's too slow the motor can overheat. Seems backwards but it's important to use the correct capacitor values for the specific fan you have.
From here you can see how the wiring works:

It would be a nice product if there was a shelly fan controller, three speeds and a dimmer integrated in the standard space for a controller. Others have one but it doesn't have a dimmer for the light.
I will do my own because I want to be able to reverse the fan as well.
