It works with Overtemperature protection.
If current more than 40A is running through the device, it will heat it up and activate the temperature protection, which would switch off the relays.
So in effect, the 4 Lx lines protection or the overall device protection of 40A, is a temperature triggered protection.
The situation will probably never occur (but it is NOT impossible).
And even with 16A CB's on every line, you can still exceed the overall 40A max load, but I just wanted to be sure.
